It seems that some insiders are more lucky than others or may be it just because they had anticipated the positive press release of today. On the same day, Pierre Seccareccia increased its stake with the acquisition of 5,000 shares at $8.05. The day before, Boralex has released excellent second quarter results. On a other front, Boralex has some opposition for a new plant. Take care. G.L.

En conclusion, it's all about money. p.s. Mes salutations, Gilbert Leblanc

Sujet: Re: From a French Canadian Reader De: Burton G Malkiel Date: Mon, 14 Mar 2005 18:58:13 +0100 Pour: Gilbert Leblanc <bourse2@videotron.ca> ----- Original Message ----- Mr. Malkiel, I read your book A random walk down on Wall Street (In fact, it was the second time that I read this book, the first time was more than 16 years ago.) I retain more this time than the first one, may be because in the meantime, I tried different methods to pick up stocks. I was a little bit surprised to learn that you don't believe anymore that insiders can have an edge over other investors. From my experience here in Canada, insiders seem to have an edge but is quite possible that the American markets are more efficient about this aspect than the Canadian one. You are writing that some people argue that because from time to time there is such severe correction on a stock or the market at a whole, that the theory of the markets efficiency is not full proof. My point is when a stock collapse, some investors who shorted it, gain. From an academic point of view, does anyone have tried to measure the efficiency of the markets, not only by looking at the value given by the prices ascribed by the direct participants of the exchanges but equally by the value that can be gain or lost outside the markets (shorting transactions, options and calls, futures and son on). Because hedge funds are gaining such momentum, I believe that this is a good interrogation. Thank for your attention. Regards, Gilbert Leblanc Editor http://www.theinsideredge.com/blog p.s. Sorry for my English skills. ---------------------------------------- Malkiel answer (a real short one but direct to the point) Insiders can make money by trading on inside information but that is illegal. I am very sketical about hedge funds. I believe that most of them underperform.
